NFL Insider: Steelers, Giants 'Begging' Aaron Rodgers to Sign Contract in Free Agency

Scott PolacekMar 13, 2025

The NFL world is waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, and two teams in particular are reportedly getting impatient.

During a Thursday appearance on Get Up (5:35 mark), ESPN's Dan Graziano said the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers "are begging him to sign with them."

Rodgers is available because the New York Jets decided to designate him as a post-June 1 cut even though it means taking on $49 million in dead money, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. While a team willing to take on that amount of dead money just to get a 41-year-old quarterback off the roster might cause some to pause, that is apparently not the case for the Giants and Steelers.

The quarterback position is one of uncertainty for both New York and Pittsburgh at this point.

The Giants cycled through Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito on the way to a 3-14 record last season. If they don't make significant strides under center in 2025, they will once again be looking up at everyone else in the NFC East.

And the Steelers no longer have Justin Fields or Russell Wilson on the roster with the former joining the Jets and the latter available in free agency. Pittsburgh seems to be more of a win-now opportunity for a veteran like Rodgers, so perhaps that will play a role in his decision-making process.

After all, the AFC North team went 10-7 in each of the last two seasons and has DK Metcalf and George Pickens as weapons in the aerial attack. Rodgers might see the roster setup as a chance to revitalize the late portion of his career after two unsuccessful seasons with the Jets.

It reportedly won't be a question of money, as Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday that any delay in the decision is not because of the financial offer. Instead, Rodgers is just taking his time to come to a conclusion.

So the NFL world will continue to wait as the Steelers and Giants continue "begging."
