Stephen Curry Dismisses Retirement Buzz: 'I'd Like to Outplay' Warriors Contract

Andrew PetersMar 12, 2025

Stephen Curry is likely getting close to the end of his career, but the Golden State Warriors star confirmed that he has a few years left in the tank.

Per 95.7 The Game, Curry wants to at least play out the rest of his current contract, which runs through the 2026-27 season.

“I know my contract is lined up and I’d like to outplay that, for sure," Curry said.

Curry, who will turn 37 later this week, is in his 16th season and is still playing at a high level. While he's not the perennial MVP candidate he once was, he's still averaging 24.5 points, 6.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 39.8 percent from deep.

Curry's play style depends heavily on moving quickly around the court without the ball, and he might lose a step in the coming years. Even if that's the case, he has the most reliable three-point shot in NBA history and can continue using it to elongate his career.

The four-time champion and two-time MVP has countless accolades, but could very well add to his impressive resume before it's all said and done.

The Warriors, who seemed to be on their way to a second consecutive playoff absence earlier this month, have found new life since adding Jimmy Butler to the roster. Golden State has won 12 of its last 14 games and is now in sixth place in the Western Conference.

Many counted the Dubs out earlier this season, but now competing for a championship doesn't seem too unrealistic.

It's hard to say whether winning another title would motivate Curry to keep playing or give him enough satisfaction to retire sooner, but it seems like he'll be around for at least a few more years.
