Steph Curry Named Assistant GM of Davidson; 1st Active USA Star to Take NCAA Admin Job
Stephen Curry is heading back to college.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported Monday the Golden State Warriors star will be an assistant general manager for the basketball programs at his alma mater, Davidson College. That makes Curry the first active player in a United States major professional sport to take an administrative job with an NCAA team.
Well before becoming one of the greatest players in NBA history, Curry first broke through under the national spotlight as a star for Davidson.

He played collegiately for three seasons from 2006-09 and averaged 25.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 41.2 percent from deep during his career. His list of accomplishments included being named a Second-Team All-American in 2008 and First-Team All-American in 2009.
Curry was also a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year and three-time All-Southern First Team selection.
Davidson played the role of Cinderella during the 2008 NCAA tournament when it advanced to the Elite Eight as a No. 10 seed behind Curry's individual brilliance.
He scored 40 points while shooting 8-of-10 from deep against seventh-seeded Gonzaga in the first round, poured in 30 points against second-seeded Georgetown in the second round, posted 33 points against third-seeded Wisconsin in the Sweet 16 and finished with 25 points in a two-point loss to top-seeded Kansas in the Elite Eight.
Curry cemented his place in Davidson history with his March performance and will now look to use his basketball connections to help his alma mater in the current college basketball age of name, image and likeness opportunities, as well as the transfer portal.
He isn't the only notable name doing so, as former NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski retired from ESPN to become the general manager of the basketball program at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure, in September.
Fortunately for the Warriors, Curry isn't retiring to assume his new position with the Wildcats.
But he will now have new basketball responsibilities in addition to attempting to add to his already illustrious resume with another championship run in Golden State.
