Duke's Cooper Flagg Leads 2024-25 MCBB Wooden Award Odds Over Auburn's Johni Broome

Joseph ZuckerFeb 26, 2025

Duke freshman Cooper Flagg is the slight favorite over Auburn star Johni Broome to claim the Wooden Award for the 2024-25 season.

Flagg is -155 to win at DraftKings Sportsbook, with Broome following closely behind at +120. The race has already tightened somewhat after the oddsmaker provided an update Tuesday night.

The consensus No. 1 recruit in the 2024 class, Flagg has lived up to the hype and then some with the Blue Devils. He's averaging 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals though 28 appearances.

In an 86-78 win over Notre Dame in January, the 6'9" forward set an ACC freshman record by scoring 42 points.

Were he to go on and get the Wooden Award, he'd be the first freshman winner across the men's and women's games since UConn's Paige Bueckers in 2019-20.

Broome has been equally prolific on the court. He's averaging 18.6 points per game while leading the SEC in rebounds (11.1) and blocks (2.6). His 17 double-doubles are also the fifth-most in Division I.

In Auburn's 91-53 demolition of Ohio State in December, the senior forward had the school's first 20-20 game (21 points and 20 rebounds) since 1989.

Broome's candidacy is boosted by the fact the Tigers rank first, one spot ahead of the Blue Devils, in the Associated Press Top 25 and Coaches polls.

Based on the odds, the battle between Flagg and Broome might go down to the wire.
