Report: Lakers to Honor Anthony Davis with Tribute Video in LA Return After Mavs Trade

Anthony Davis will make his return to Los Angeles on Tuesday for the first time since the Lakers traded him to the Dallas Mavericks in return for Luka Dončić.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Lakers plan to honor Davis with an "emotional" tribute video ahead of the contest between Los Angeles and Dallas.

Davis joined the Lakers ahead of the 2019-20 season and immediately had an impact, helping lead the team to their first championship since 2010. He was a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate while in purple and gold and even made a few strong cases to be in the MVP conversation.

Ultimately, the Lakers got an offer too good to pass up when the Mavericks proposed the Dončić trade. Dončić, just 25 years old, has already been a member of the All-NBA First Team five times and is consistently in the MVP race.

He was averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists for the Mavericks at the time of the trade.

Los Angeles was playing well before the trade and potentially could have competed for a championship with Davis on the team, but Dončić ultimately could be the face of the franchise for years to come while Davis is likely at the backend of his career.

Unfortunately, Davis' time in Dallas hasn't gone well so far. While he put up 26 points, 16 boards and seven assists in his debut, he suffered an adductor strain in his first game and is set to miss several weeks. That means he will miss Tuesday's game in Los Angeles.

Davis will have another chance for a revenge game against his former team, as the Mavericks will face the Lakers in Dallas on April 9.
