Bucks' Kyle Kuzma Talks Mistakenly Dapping Up Former Wizards Teammate: 'It Was Weird'
Kyle Kuzma is still getting used to not being a member of the Washington Wizards, as evidenced by an awkward moment during Friday's game between his current team and former team.
Speaking to reporters after the Milwaukee Bucks' 104-101 win over the Wizards, Kuzma acknowledged a "weird" moment when he mistakenly dapped up Bilal Coulibaly in the first quarter.
"One time in the first quarter, it might have been Alex [Sarr], he might have blocked a shot. Bilal [Coulibaly] came over to dap him up," Kuzma said. "Then I dapped up Bilal, just by instinct. It was weird."
The Bucks acquired Kuzma from the Wizards as part of a four-team deal that sent Khris Middleton to Washington on Feb. 6.
It was a bit of a surprise move given how important Middleton has been to the Bucks over the years, but his inability to stay on the court over the past three seasons led to them looking for more stability.
Kuzma wound up being the main addition for a Bucks team that is trying to compete for a title this season. He left the Wizards after spending 3.5 seasons in Washington.
The Wizards originally acquired Kuzma from the Los Angeles Lakers in August 2021 as part of the Russell Westbrook trade. He had a successful tenure in Washington, averaging 19.5 points on 45.1 percent shooting in 232 games.
Even though Kuzma is still getting used to not wearing a Wizards jersey, he did his part to help the Bucks get a victory on a night when they didn't have Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo fouled out after just 19 minutes.
Kuzma led the Bucks in scoring with 19 points in 34 minutes. Milwaukee is 4-2 in six games with him in the lineup.
