Breaking Down Projected No. 1 Seeds

Auburn

At 22-2 and as the No. 1-ranked team in the country, it came as little surprise Saturday when Auburn was named the No. 1 overall seed in the early NCAA tournament seedings.

The Tigers have been a dominant force this season thanks largely to their depth, as six players on the roster are averaging double figures in scoring.

Forward Johni Broome is the clear go-to guy with averages of 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 blocks per contest, but Auburn has been getting production up and down the lineup.

Auburn's only losses were to two other projected No. 1 seeds in Duke and Florida, which suggests the Tigers could potentially be vulnerable once they go up against other elite teams in the tourney.

Alabama

Auburn is the team to beat in the SEC right now, but rival Alabama is nipping at the Tigers' heels.

The Crimson Tide are just behind the Tigers with a 21-3 overall record, and they are tied with Auburn with a 10-1 conference record.

At 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Alabama will clash in the biggest game of the season thus far, as the winner will be all alone in first place in the SEC.

Like Auburn, Alabama has a ton of depth with five players averaging at least 10 points per game, and it also has a superstar leading the way in the form of guard Mark Sears, who is putting up 17.8 points, 4.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds per contest.

Duke

There has been no more hyped-up team in college basketball this season than Duke, and the Blue Devils have managed to deliver as the No. 3-ranked team in the nation.

Duke has won 17 of its past 18 games, and it owns impressive victories this season over the likes of Arizona, Auburn, Louisville, SMU, Wake Forest and North Carolina.

Freshman sensation Cooper Flagg entered the season as a National Player of the Year candidate, and he hasn't disappointed, averaging 19.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest.

Kon Knueppel and Tyrese Proctor are the only Blue Devils averaging double figures in scoring, so while they may not have quite as much offensive depth as Auburn and Alabama, it can be argued that they have the better high-end talent.

Florida

Of all the projected No. 1 seeds, Florida has perhaps exceeded expectations more than the others.

The Gators are 21-3 on the season despite playing in the difficult SEC, and they own wins over No. 1 Auburn and a Tennessee team that was No. 1 at the time they beat them.

Guards Walter Clayton Jr. and Alijah Martin have set the Gators apart this season with Clayton averaging 17.5 points, 4.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, and Martin putting up 15.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per contest.

Florida not only has the firepower to go on a deep NCAA tournament run, but it has also proved that it can beat some of the best teams in the country already.
