Lakers May Offload Young to Accommodate Roy Hibbert
Sunday, July 5
The Lakers are potentially close to completing a trade for Roy Hibbert, with Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times reporting they'll send a second-round pick to the Indiana Pacers.
In order to maintain some cap flexibility after taking on Hibbert's $15.5 million contract, Los Angeles might make Young available to the highest bidder, per Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Not coincidentally, this news comes after the Lakers also agreed to a three-year deal with Lou Williams, per Wojnarowski. Bresnahan thought the writing was on the wall at that point:
Trading Young would help L.A. financially and also allow the team to avoid any sort of problems created by having Williams, Young and Kobe Bryant all on the roster. None of the three is shy about shooting the ball.
Should Young leave, it would be the end of an entertaining partnership. His on-court eccentricities combined with the Lakers' poor records the past two years created some memorable moments.
