Jalen Hurts: Joy of Eagles' Super Bowl Win 'Had No Comparison' to Pain of 2023 Loss
Jalen Hurts says he will still be motivated by losing Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023 despite the Philadelphia Eagles' victory in last Sunday's rematch.
"This whole year has been more magnifying to me in terms of my desire to win, because I kind of learned how I processed everything after the game, and where my heart was," Hurts told reporters Thursday (h/t 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks.) "It's like the joy of winning it still had no comparison to the pain of losing. So, these things are still going to motivate me, and drive me internally."
Hurt added that after Super Bowl LVII, "The desire to win just burned like it never burned before."
Hurts' response gave some insight into what was going through his head late in the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX victory over the Chiefs.
In Thursday's episode of NFL Super Bowl LIX Mic'd Up, NFL Films shows Eagles tight end Grant Calcaterra telling Hurts he could "crack a smile" after Philadelphia took a 40-6 lead over the Chiefs (32:45 mark).
"I can't lie to you, bro. That last one changed my soul, man," Hurts answered, shaking his head.
The Eagles were leading by 10 points at halftime of Super Bowl LVII before Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs on a comeback capped off by Harrison Butker's game-winning field goal.
Two years later, the Eagles led by 24 points at the half, and they clamped down on defense in the third quarter to preserve the lead.
The Chiefs didn't score until the final minute of the third quarter. By that point, the defending champions were already trailing by 34 points.
The Super Bowl LIX MVP will celebrate his team's win with Eagles fans during Friday's parade through Philadelphia.
