Kosta Koufos and Kings Reportedly Agree to 4-Year Contract

Adam WellsJul 4, 2015

Kosta Koufos is reportedly headed to the Sacramento Kings.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the big man agreed to a four-year, $33 million deal with Sacramento. Stein also noted the deal includes a player option after Year 3.

ESPN's Chris Broussard previously reported the two Los Angeles-based teams expressed interest in Koufos.

That report came after Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports noted the Los Angeles Clippers would have had to acquire Koufos via sign-and-trade if they indeed wanted him.

Koufos has been a solid backup center in his seven NBA seasons, averaging 5.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game with outstanding defense. He was worth 2.5 defensive win shares last season, per Basketball-Reference.com, despite playing less than 17 minutes per game.

Point guard Rajon Rondo is also reportedly heading to the Kings, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports. While the Kings still need more weapons to truly be considered a threat in the West, DeMarcus Cousins' squad has made moves that will help the team improve in the near future.

Koufos will join Cousins and newly drafted Willie Cauley-Stein in a cluttered Sacramento frontcourt. Perhaps the Kings have brought in Koufos in case Cousins is on the move, in light of the Los Angeles Lakers' recent attempt to acquire him, but he'll be a serviceable big regardless of what other roster moves the Kings make.
