Cavs Exploring Potential Crawford Trade Bait
Monday, July 6
Marc Stein of ESPN reported the Cleveland Cavaliers are exploring the possibility of acquiring Crawford in exchange for Brendan Haywood.
This comes after a July 3 report from Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, who noted the Clippers could make Crawford available to the highest bidder in order to get the flexibility necessary to try to fill the void left by DeAndre Jordan.
Stein and Tim MacMahon reported Jordan will sign a max deal with the Dallas Mavericks.
Los Angeles not only lost Jordan but also traded away Spencer Hawes a few weeks ago, leaving exactly zero centers on the roster.
The franchise must do something to resolve the issue, and dealing Crawford would make sense. Trading for Lance Stephenson caused a bit of a logjam at the 2, so removing Crawford from the equation would kill two birds with one stone.
The Clippers are certainly in a tough spot since almost anybody they get to play the 5 next year won't be as good as Jordan. Of course, getting anything else would be better than what they currently have.
Maybe Doc Rivers can make the best of a bad situation he has helped to create.
