Collin Sexton Reportedly Traded to Hornets, Jazz Receive Jusuf Nurkic Ahead of NBA FA
The Utah Jazz have reportedly traded combo guard Collin Sexton to the Charlotte Hornets.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported Sunday the deal also includes a 2030 second-round pick and features Jusuf Nurkiฤ heading back to Utah:
The 26-year-old Sexton has played seven NBA seasons and three with the Jazz after suiting up four on the Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected him out of Alabama with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 draft.
For the season, Sexton posted 18.4 points on 48.0 percent shooting (40.6 percent from three) and 4.2 assists.
It's no surprise that teams coveted Sexton. He's a productive scoring combo guard, and his contract isn't a harbinger for teams given that he has just one year remaining on his deal at $18,975,000 for 2025-26.
It's also not a shock that the Jazz, who finished last in the NBA standings at 17-65, looked to deal him. Utah is in a multi-year rebuilding mode, and it's better off acquiring draft picks and younger talent at this juncture in hopes of competing down the road. Utah has 13 first-rounders coming its way from 2025-2029, so the plan is already in action.
Sexton's a solid player but probably not the best fit in Utah right now, so he's off as the Jazz continue its reconstruction project.
