Brendan Haywood Reportedly Traded to Portland Trail Blazers
Cleveland Cavaliers center Brendan Haywood was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday, reported Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Along with Haywood, the Cavaliers will send Mike Miller and their second-round draft picks in 2019 and 2020 to Portland in exchange for cash considerations, according to Wojnarowski. With the move, Cleveland now has two separate trade exceptions worth $10.5 million and $2.85 million, noted Wojnarowski.
The Cavs were talking with a variety of teams about taking on Haywood's contract, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers, according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports on July 7.
Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News reported on June 30 the San Antonio Spurs were talking with the Cavs about a potential trade for Haywood as well.
Haywood was an extremely limited Cavaliers contributor last season. He averaged just 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 22 appearances. He hasn't played extended minutes since his time with the Washington Wizards during the 2009-10 campaign.
The most likely scenario is him getting waived by the Blazers. From there, he'll hit the open market and hope to find a team where he can make a bigger impact.
