Kings Showing Interest

Tuesday, June 30

Chris Broussard of ESPN.com reports the Sacramento Kings are searching for another guard to play alongside Darren Collison. Schroder joins a crowded target list that includes Rajon Rondo, Jeremy Lin, Ty Lawson and Jrue Holiday.

Tony Xypteras of Sactown Royalty notes the Kings have been longtime admirers of the 21-year-old German guard.

After playing an extremely limited role as a rookie, Schroder was bumped up to nearly 20 minutes per game this past season. He responded by showcasing his exciting potential, averaging 10 points and 4.1 assists in 77 games.

Atlanta used a first-round pick on him in 2013, so it clearly believes in his talent. That said, the Hawks already have a starting point guard in Jeff Teague and Shelvin Mack, who's capable of filling the backup role once he recovers from a shoulder injury.

They would be dealing from a position of the strength. What the Kings would offer is unclear, but they do have an overabundance of power forwards, which is an area of need for Atlanta. So at least on the surface, the sides are a match.

The other question is where Schroder ranks for Sacramento in that large group of targets. With free agency about to begin, it won't take long to find out.
