Kings Have Eyes on Holiday

Tuesday, June 30

According to ESPN.com's Chris Broussard, the Sacramento Kings are looking at Holiday on their list of possible point guard acquisitions this summer:

Holiday is set to make approximately $21.8 million over the next two seasons, per Spotrac. That's a large chunk of change, though the 25-year-old has been worth it when he's on the court. He's averaged 13.6 points and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 37.6 percent from three-point range in six seasons.

The problem is that staying on the court has been an issue for Holiday. The former first-round pick has only played 74 games over the last two seasons due injuries, mostly to his right leg.

John Reid of the Times-Picayune noted after New Orleans' 2014-15 season ended that head coach Monty Williams, before he was fired by the team, was concerned about Holiday's continuous leg problems: ''I can't sit here and try to diminish that. There is concern there, just because he's unsure and he hasn't been able to play and our medical staff is evaluating daily trying to figure out how we can get him on the floor.''

While Holiday will have to prove he's capable of playing 70-75 games per season moving forward, he's still young enough that a team in love with his skills on the court can make him a valuable asset to acquire via trade.

The Kings would seem like a team able to take a shot on Holiday because the franchise is trying to build for the future and has no expectations since they've been so bad for nearly a decade.
