Rockets Trying to Trade Jones

Thursday, June 25

According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, the Rockets will attempt to trade Jones ahead of Thursday's draft.

Stein also reported Houston's impetus to put Jones on the block is because the team hopes "to get in the mix" for free agents LaMarcus Aldridge and Kevin Love but that cap space is a problem. Stein also noted the 18th overall pick is up for grabs as well but reported the prices for Jones and the selection are "higher than advertised."

Jones, who was the 18th overall pick in 2012, missed 49 games last season thanks in large part to a nerve injury. He has been a valuable asset when healthy, averaging nearly 12 points and seven rebounds per game each of the last two seasons.

The Rockets are trying to build off last season's run to the Western Conference Finals and seem willing to explore all options to upgrade their roster. Even if things don't work out exactly as planned, give them credit for being open to discussions for a talented young player like Jones.
