Thompson Ties Allen for 3rd-Most 3-Pointers Made in a Single Postseason
Despite having a quiet series in the 2015 NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson tied Ray Allen for the third-most three-pointers made (57) in a single postseason, per NBA.com/Stats' Twitter account.
Thompson fell just one shy of second-place Reggie Miller (58), who saw his own record broken by Thompson's teammate, superstar guard Stephen Curry (98).
Thompson made just one three-pointer in each of the last three games of the Finals, but only after sinking three or more treys in 12 of Golden State's first 18 playoff games.
That includes two games in which he made six three-pointers, with one coming in Game 3 of the opening round against the New Orleans Pelicans and the other coming in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Houston Rockets.
Thompson finished the postseason with modest averages of 18.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists, but he shot the ball efficiently—if not quite up to his usual standard. He sunk 39 percent of his three-point attempts and 44.6 percent of his field-goal attempts after making 43.9 percent and 46.3 percent, respectively, during the regular season.
Thompson made 2.7 three-pointers per game in the playoffs compared to 3.1 during the regular season, even though his minutes jumped from 31.9 per game to 36.2.
Should the Warriors make another run to the Finals next year, Thompson will be a good bet to surpass Miller and Allen on the list for most three-pointers in a single postseason—although such a scenario would likely see Curry make a run at his own record, leaving Thompson stuck in third place.
