John Cena vs. Kevin Owens: Rumors, Likely Scenarios for Money in the Bank 2015

Aaron BowerJun 10, 2015

After Kevin Owens shocked the world with his victory against John Cena at Elimination Chamber, talk quickly turned to whether Owens can repeat the job at Money in the Bank.

There's a well-documented theory in the wrestling world that Cena never puts guys over, but the fact that Owens won clean at Elimination Chamber suggests that isn't always the case.

The bout itself was impressive, and hopes are high that it can be repeated on pay-per-view.

But what can we expect from the outcome of the match? Will Cena get revenge? Will Owens win with a touch of controversy? Or will the unthinkable happen with Owens going clean over Cena once again?

Naturally, there are a few likely scenarios for their match at Money in the Bank. The fact that it's a non-title match adds weight to the possibility that Owens could emerge victorious.

Owens' debut and his subsequent performances (including beating Neville on Raw) prove that he's in the midst of a major push with the company.

Owens could win again, but expect it to be more controversial this time. His win against Cena at Elimination Chamber was meant to elevate him to a phenomenal height, but now Owens may need a different type of win, one that will add heat to the impressive momentum he's gained so far.

Having Cena lose clean twice to a WWE rookie (Owens isn't a rookie in wrestling terms, of course) seems unthinkable, so a controversial and debatable victory might be the best plan of action for Owens.

Of course, there's no guaranteeing Owens will win, and a revenge win for Cena is perhaps just as likely. But while it seems like there's only one logical way for Owens to win, there are a few more options for Cena.

Cageside Seats is reporting as part of its daily rumor roundup that Cena is in line to get a win similar to his revenge over Brock Lesnar at Night of Champions last year.

Cena won via disqualification when Seth Rollins came out and attacked him, setting up a feud for Cena there. WWE is keen to make Owens look strong regardless of the result, so a DQ win for Cena could be the best plan of action if he must win.

One example could be Owens' disqualification by breaking the rules and laying a beatdown on Cena. That would ensure that Cena gets the win next to his name, but Owens will look like a ruthless monster who comes out of Money in the Bank with some momentum.

As Owens' other big rival is set for his in-ring debut in the week leading up to Money in the Bank, perhaps the NXT champion could lose controversially thanks to an interference.

With Samoa Joe debuting on NXT just days out from Money in the Bank, a strong performance there may lead to a confrontation between the two men on Sunday's pay-per-view.

Joe should cause a distraction that makes Owens to lose his focus and gives Cena the victory. Much like the previous option, it would leave Owens looking relatively strong and add fuel to the fire for Joe vs. Owens in the coming weeks.
