Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors: Game 2 Odds, Betting Stats
The Golden State Warriors used overtime and the loss of Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving to not only beat Cleveland in Game 1 of the 2015 NBA Finals but also cover the six-point spread in a 108-100 series-opening victory Thursday.
The Cavaliers got outscored 10-2 in the extra session in Game 1, missing 12 straight shots at one point. Cleveland also wasted a 44-point effort from LeBron James and will be an even bigger underdog at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark for Game 2 at Oakland’s Oracle Arena Sunday.
The Cavs opened as consensus 6.5-point underdogs for Game 2 but have already dropped to eight-point underdogs at some sportsbooks with Irving’s diagnosis Friday coming back as a fractured kneecap that will require season-ending surgery, the team confirmed.
Irving was one of just two other Cleveland players besides James to score in double figures with 23 points in Game 1, while also grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out six assists and blocking two shots, the last of which kept Golden State’s Stephen Curry from making the potential game-winning layup.
Timofey Mozgov also had a strong game inside with 16 points and seven rebounds, and James added eight boards and six assists to his monster effort.
Curry led the Warriors with 26 points. Fellow guard Klay Thompson scored 21 and Andre Iguodala added 15 in 32 minutes off the bench.
Iguodala was tasked with guarding James most of the game and did a solid job in holding him to 18-of-38 shooting from the field (47 percent), with the biggest miss coming on a long jumper that was the final shot of regulation and could have won the game for the Cavaliers.
The Warriors improved to 8-1 straight-up at home in the playoffs and 4-5 against the spread, according to the OddsShark NBA Database.
Cleveland failed to cover the spread for just the second time in the team’s last six playoff games. The Cavaliers were 2-0 against the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Finals without Irving and went 1-1 ATS with reserve Matthew Dellavedova averaging 14 points starting in his place.
James picked up the scoring slack versus the Hawks by averaging 33.5 points in the two games Irving missed as well.
