Former tennis champion Doris Hart, who was a dominant force on the women's, doubles and mixed doubles circuits in the 1940s and 1950s, died Friday. She was 89.

According to the tennis Hall of Fame's website, Hart died at her home in Coral Gables, Florida. The cause of death is not known at this time.

Hart is one of the most accomplished tennis players in history, winning 35 major titles during her career. She captured the career Grand Slam as a singles player, in mixed doubles and in standard doubles play. She's one of three players in history to earn the so-called "boxed set."

Her most notable string of success came at the U.S. Open, which she swept as a doubles player from 1951-1954 and took twice as a solo competitor (1954, 1955). Hart also won all three Wimbledon events in 1951 on the same day due to rain delays.

"Doris and I first played doubles together in 1949 when her brother Bud decided I would be a good partner for Doris because I could run down the lobs," former playing partner Shirley Fry-Irvin told the Hall of Fame. "Turns out Bud was right, Doris and I had a pretty good doubles career. More importantly, we became best friends and traveling companions, and shared many hilarious adventures along the way."

Hart left the sport as a full-time competitor in 1955. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1969.
