Carroll Reportedly Dealing With Hip Pointer
Monday, May 11
Zach Klein of WSB-TV in Atlanta shared the details of Carroll’s injury:
Carroll is not one of Atlanta’s All-Stars, but he is an important role player on a team that is already without forward Thabo Sefolosha. Carroll averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season and shot 39.5 percent from three-point range.
Despite his formidable numbers for the Hawks during the regular season, he struggled at times in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Wizards on the defensive end. Michael Lee of the Washington Post pointed out that Paul Pierce had his way with Carroll on the floor, and that could be a more concerning issue if Carroll’s mobility is limited:
If Carroll is forced to miss extended time, players such as Kent Bazemore and Mike Scott will likely be asked to play more minutes (especially with Sefolosha already out). Both are capable of shooting the three-pointer, but neither is the pure scoring threat that Carroll is on the floor.
What’s more, Carroll was third on the team in rebounding during the regular season. Paul Millsap and Al Horford will have even more responsibility on their shoulders when it comes to crashing the glass without Carroll, which could impact their effectiveness on the offensive end if they are exerting too much energy.
Atlanta has championship aspirations as the top seed in the East, but Carroll is an invaluable part of its rotation.
