Tim DanielsJul 6, 2015

Marc Gasol is reportedly staying with the Memphis Grizzlies after coming to terms on a five-year deal worth $110 million that includes a player option after the fourth year. ย  ย

ESPN.com'sย Marc Stein reported the details of Gasol's fresh contract. Sam Amico of Fox Sports previously reported that the Grizzlies were expected to bring back the talented center.

Memphis eventually confirmed the deal on July 13.

Gasol is coming off a career-best season. The Spaniard averaged 17.4 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 49 percent from the field. He also chipped in 3.8 assists and 1.6 blocked shots per game.

His ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor allowed him to rate highly in some prominent advanced statistics. He ranked 17th in the league in player efficiency rating (21.73) and cracked the top eight in value added (446.4) and estimated wins added (14.9), according to ESPN.com'sย Hollinger Stats.

David Locke of the Utah Jazz Radio Network passed along the big man's shot chart:

BOSTON, MA - MARCH 11: Marc Gasol #33 of the Memphis Grizzlies looks on during the fourth quarter against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on March 11, 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts. The Celtics defeat the Grizzlies 95-92. NOTE TO USER: User expressly ack

After spending the first seven years of his career in Memphis, there were questions about his future heading into the offseason. As with all free agents, the looming potential of larger contracts next summer, when the NBA's new television deal comes into play, further increased the uncertainty.

According toย Fred Kerber of the New York Post, Gasol wasn't ready to make any early declarations during the latter stages of the regular season:

"

I don't know what factors will play into my decision but the factors that are there today, you can't change the past. You can't change where I've been for the majority of my life as an adult.

I came to Memphis when I was 16. My family's been tied to the franchise since the franchise has been in Memphis. You can't change that. I don't know what the future holds but I know what the past and the present is.

"

Once the Grizzlies' season ended, the focus shifted to Gasol's future. His bond with Memphis was clearly strong. In the end, he decided the best move was staying with the Grizzlies.

It's hard to find any fault in opting to re-sign with the only NBA franchise he's ever played for. He forms a terrific one-two punch in the frontcourt with Zach Randolph. Add in point guardย Mike Conley, and you have a team consistently competitive in the Western Conference.

The 30-year-old center is one of the most reliable post players in the league. Given the fact that he's coming off a career year, it wouldn't appear that any type of significant drop-off is on the horizon. And he won't have to go through any type of transition period.

Getting Gasol back was a crucial piece of the offseason puzzle for Memphis. The mission can now be considered a success.
