Teague Becomes 2nd Player with 13-Plus Assists, 0 Points in Playoff Game
Atlanta Hawks guard Jeff Teague posted an unusual stat line in Friday's series-clinching Game 6 win over the Brooklyn Nets, becoming the second player in NBA history with 13 or more assists and zero points in a playoff game, per NBA.com/stats.
While Teague missed all five of his field-goal attempts over 24 minutes in the 111-87 blowout victory, he contributed a game-high 13 assists, a rebound, two steals and a block.
The only other player to record 13 or more assists without any points in a playoff game was Nate McMillan, who had 16 dimes for the Seattle SuperSonics in a Western Conference semifinals win over the Houston Rockets on May 14, 1987.
McMillan's odd stat line also occurred during a series-ending Game 6, in the wake of a rookie season that saw him average 5.3 points and 8.2 assists per game. His SuperSonics were swept by the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, with the Lakers then going on to beat the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.
While not exactly a shoot-first point guard, the 26-year-old Teague is a much bigger scoring threat than McMillan, who never averaged more than 7.6 points in a season.
Teague finished the 2014-15 campaign with averages of 15.9 points and 7.0 dimes, closely mirroring what he did in the two previous seasons.
A second-round matchup with the Washington Wizards may lead to some more assist-heavy stat lines for Teague, as Wizards point guard John Wall is one of the NBA's top defenders at the position.
