Nike Shoes Worn by Michael Jordan During Rookie Season Sell for $71,000
More than 30 years after they pounded the hardwood, a pair of Nike sneakers that Michael Jordan wore during his rookie season have been sold for a nice chunk of change.
According to ESPN.com's Darren Rovell, SCP Auctions sold a pair of red-and-white Nike Air Ships worn by Jordan in 1984 for $71,553. Per Rovell, the only Jordan-worn shoes that have sold for more money were the ones he wore during his legendary "Flu Game" in the 1997 NBA Finals, which went for $104,765.
The recently auctioned Air Ships were originally acquired by Khalid Ali, who was a Los Angeles Lakers ball boy during the 1984-85 season. Ali had asked Jordan for his sneakers when the Chicago Bulls came to Los Angeles that season.
Jordan used the Air Ships for the game, autographed them and gave them to Ali afterward.
The only game that Jordan played against the Lakers at the Great Western Forum that season was on Dec. 2, when he dropped 20 points in a 113-112 victory.
