Brooks Reportedly Likely to Sit out Next Season

Wednesday, May 20

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported that despite interest from teams like the New Orleans Pelicans and Denver Nuggets, Brooks intends to take a break from the game:

"

Former Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks plans to pass on interview chances with the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans and appears inclined to sit out the 2015-16 season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Brooks, 49, wants to coach again but plans to take the year to look at television opportunities and reconnect with his family living in California, sources said.

"

Brooks built enough of a resume during his seven-year tenure with the Thunder that he can wait for the best pitch. He was in a rough situation this year with a jumbled roster around Russell Westbrook as Kevin Durant struggled to stay on the court and ultimately shut it down in mid-February, yet the Thunder still managed to win 45 games.

It's no surprise teams covet Brooks as a head coach. But he is apparently going to choose the kind of situation he wants to inherit carefully and return to the league when he is ready. Once he returns from his hiatus, expect Brooks to be linked to most of the job openings in the league.
