NFL Draft 2015: Full Predictions for Jameis Winston, Most Buzzworthy Prospects

Timothy RappApr 29, 2015

Where are the top players going? Where will the most buzzworthy stars end up? Where will the most exciting prospects be thrilling fans next year and for years to come?

Below, I've attempted to answer that very question about the four most buzzworthy and intriguing prospects at this year's draft. Let's get to the predictions!

Jameis Winston: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jameis Winston is going to be the top overall pick. He's just such a talented quarterback and has the room to grow into a very special player. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have done so much homework on him by the draft that they'll probably feel like they know Winston better than he knows himself.

The Bucs aren't going to trade this pick. They aren't going to draft Marcus Mariota or a different prospect. They are going to take the best pure pocket passer in this draft. They are going to take a player who has excellent touch, makes all the throws and has shown a penchant for coming up clutch late in games.

Winston has so more growing up to do, but his natural gifts are too impressive to ignore. The Bucs won't ignore them, you can count on that.

Marcus Mariota: San Diego Chargers

Marcus Mariota doesn't have the off-field concerns. In fact, his humility, work ethic and team-first mentality are all huge strengths. So is his athleticism and intelligence. I really believe his upside is a taller Russell Wilson, and I can't imagine him slipping past the No. 2 overall pick.

And yes, I think the San Diego Chargers will go up and get him.

They'll have to give up Philip Rivers and the No. 17 pick. They might have to give up more than that, too. But Rivers is a better fit for Tennessee and still has another five or so years left in the tank, and he'll instantly make the Titans a contender in the AFC South.

Mariota, meanwhile, will give the Chargers a young, exciting face of the franchise and a player who can run an up-tempo, spread attack if the team chooses to go that route.

Amari Cooper: Chicago Bears

It's possible Amari Cooper could be a top-five pick. If the Jacksonville Jaguars go with Leonard Williams at No. 3 overall, I could see the Oakland Raiders nabbing Cooper with the next pick, even after signing Michael Crabtree

But if the Jags take an edge-rusher instead, which I envision them doing, I could see Cooper dropping to No. 7, where the Chicago Bears would gladly scoop him up to replace Brandon Marshall and pair with Alshon Jeffery to give the team one of the most dynamic young wideout pairings in all of football.

The Bears could choose to go a different route, given the other holes they have on their roster. But giving the erratic Jay Cutler as many quality weapons to work with as possible makes sense. The Bears have several pieces in place to have a dangerous offense in 2015—Cooper would be the cherry on top.

Todd Gurley: Arizona Cardinals

Can you imagine the thunder-and-lightning pair of Todd Gurley and Andre Ellington in Arizona? How nasty would that be?

It's possible that Gurley could be a top-20 pick, of course, but in a draft deep at several other key positions in the first round and the league's general devaluation of running backs, I think it's just as likely Gurley drops into the 20s (if the Chargers keep their pick at No. 17, I'd peg them as the team most likely to draft Gurley).

Gurley would make a ton of sense for Arizona. Ellington is just too slight to be the primary ball-carrier, while Gurley would give the team a dynamic, bruising, elite option between the tackles. That would free up Ellington to be used in a variety of roles and packages and give the Cardinals one of the better backfields in football.

They are probably praying that Gurley drops to them. If he does, Arizona is going to be one very happy organization.
