Washington Wizards vs. Toronto Raptors: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction
Despite falling behind in the opening quarter, the Washington Wizards bounced back in the second and never looked back, downing the Toronto Raptors 117-106 to take a 2-0 series lead.
The first-round series now heads to Washington, where the Wizards will look to finish off the struggling Toronto squad.
John Wall led the way for Washington, finishing the night with 26 points (8-of-16 FG) and a franchise- postseason-high 17 assists. The All-Star point guard was on fire the entire night, attacking the rim and scoring at will from virtually anywhere on the court.
He was joined by Bradley Beal, whose 28 points set a new career playoff-high. It was on Beal's shoulders that Washington made its big second quarter run after Toronto opened the game with a 12-2 lead, and on Wall's that they pulled away.
Marcin Gortat scored the bulk of his 16 points in the first quarter, but provided the team with a great option in the post. He and Wall ran the pick and roll beautifully for the entirety of the contest.
Toronto was led by DeMar DeRozan, who quieted down after scoring nine points in the opening minutes of the game. He finished with 20 on 18 shots.
Lou Williams also added 20 but did so on a terrible 5-of-13 shooting.
Washington, meanwhile, found success off the bench in the form of Otto Porter, who scored 15 on 6-of-8 shooting. He also played great defense on DeRozan to slow him down after the hot start. Paul Pierce, the hero of Game 1, struggled, scoring just 10 on 2-of-7 shooting.
However, Washington made its run when Pierce was moved to the four, opening up space for the backcourt to attack.
Now in a prime position to advance, Washington gets the opportunity to capitalize on this momentum at home.
Game 3 will be played on Friday, April 24.
