Duke NCAA Championship Celebration 2015: Twitter Reaction and Photos

Adam WellsApr 7, 2015

One day after winning the fifth college basketball championship in program history, the Duke Blue Devils returned home to celebrate with their fans at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

As you would expect from such a rabid, passionate fanbase, the Cameron Crazies were out in full force. Per the Duke Basketball official Twitter, fans were packing the building nearly an hour before the festivities were set to begin:

It was obvious after the buzzer sounded on the Blue Devils' 68-63 win over Wisconsin that this was an emotional win for the program and head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who told Matt Lauer on Today that this team "has been my best group, as far as being together, that I've coached in 40 years."

That's certainly a big statement for a coach who has won five national championships and appeared in nine title games, but this was a rare season when Duke—as a No. 1 seed—always felt like an underdog because of what was happening with Kentucky and how well the Badgers played throughout the tournament.

Before the celebration, Duke defensive backs coach Derek Jones shared a picture from Cameron with former Blue Devils star and member of the 2010 national championship team Nolan Smith:

The News & Observer in Raleigh tweeted out a picture of the team walking into Cameron for its celebration party:

After all the waiting, the Blue Devils finally walked out in their championship T-shirts in front of a black and white banner:

Coach K took center stage to describe how his team built itself into a championship group, which also expands upon the things he told Lauer, via Duke Basketball:

If you want to know how the Hall of Fame coach was able to get himself and his team up to play each night, it was through music from a hip-hop artist he's grown quite fond of, via Duke Basketball:

After Krzyzewski turned things over, the player speaking for the team was senior guard Quinn Cook. Coach K was very complimentary of the star, via Durham Magazine:

Cook didn't say much in his brief appearance on the stage, but the emotion was apparent in quotes like this one:

Also. per Duke Basketball, Krzyzewski noted that he had a very interesting phone call from President Barack Obama about his bracket:

Per Sharon Tazewell of WNCN NBC in Raleigh-Durham, the Blue Devils will take a trip to the White House at some point:

Considering how much Krzyzewski likes to point out President Obama didn't pick the Blue Devils to win a championship, it should be interesting to see his response. After all, the president knows how to crack a joke with the best of them.

As things started to wind down, Coach K took the stage once again. Since you can't talk Duke basketball without getting a mention of North Carolina, there were several boos when the Tar Heels were brought up. Krzyzewski shot that down in glorious fashion, via Duke Basketball:

What would a celebration be without at least one burn being fired at North Carolina? The Tar Heels may not like it, but there's nothing they can do about it now. The Blue Devils are the national champions and have earned bragging rights over everyone.

Now, even though they are still basking in the celebration, the Blue Devils have to figure out what will happen next season. Krzyzewski isn't shy or unable to recruit elite talent, but there's a strong possibility he will need to replace Jahlil Okafor, Justise Winslow and Tyus Jones.

Since the program figures to be among the best in the country again, no one will dwell on the future too long. Duke went through many ups and a couple of downs this season yet made the plays it had to on the biggest stage. The result is the program's fifth title since 1991.
