Novak Djokovic Apologises to Ballboy After Shouting in 2015 Miami Open Final

Mark PattersonApr 6, 2015

Novak Djokovic issued a video apology to a ballboy whose face he shouted in during the final of the 2015 Miami Open.

Djokovic had just lost the second set to Andy Murray and was letting off steam to his coaching team, but the ballboy was caught in the crossfire. The top seed was issued with a code violation by the umpire:

Afterwards, Djokovic regained his composure and won the match. He issued a full apology to the boy, saying that becoming a parent had put the incident in another light for him (apology starts at approximately the 45-second point):

"

I saw the replay, unfortunately the ball boy was in the middle of it, and I really feel sorry and I regret that he was there. There was absolutely no intention whatsoever to hurt him or scare him in any kind of way, and I sincerely hope that he forgives me.

I really apologise, and also as a parent, I do care about children a lot right now. I look at it in a much different way, so I want to apologise to his parents as well for this situation and as a father I wouldn’t wish something like this happens to my son.

"

After victories in Miami and Indian Wells, as well as the Australian Open, Djokovic looks set to dominate the rest of the 2015 season.

With Rafael Nadal's form a question mark, even as he returns to his favourite surface of clay, it does not seem outlandish to suggest Djokovic could win all four Grand Slams this year.
