College Slam Dunk Contest 2015: Highlighting LaQuavius Cotton's Best Jams
If you had ever heard of LaQuavius Cotton before Thursday night, you're either a fan of the Division II Delta State Statesmen or an absolute hoops savant. In any case, the senior swingman put on a nice show en route to capturing the 2015 College Slam Dunk Contest.
The event's official website gives Cotton the proper congratulations and a cool belt to commemorate his win.

In the finals, Cotton knocked off one of the favorites in Wisconsin—Green Bay's Keifer Sykes. Despite Sykes' 6'0" frame, he is known for his ability to sky and throw down spectacular slams. Unfortunately for him, he was unable to complete his dunks in the final round.
This resulted in a score of 18 and paved the way for Cotton to bring home the championship. While he too experienced some issues completing slams in the final round, Cotton did most of his damage in the semifinal round, when he jumped over the head of Butler Bulldogs' 5'11" guard Alex Barlow.
The Rich Nye aka NyeTheSportsGuy caught the slam on video and posted it on Instagram.
The still shots captured by ESPN College BBall show off the height and grace Cotton displayed in soaring over Barlow.

The other memorable slam from Cotton was a self alley-oop that saw the lefty seemingly pause in the air before firing it through the rim. The dunk was basic in nature, but the hang time was what made it special.
Scouts Focus caught the poetry in motion.
In case you were wondering, Cotton is a senior at Delta State. He averaged 10.9 points per game in his only season for the Statesmen after transferring in from Mississippi College. The 6'6" guard appeared in 29 games and started in 16.
He's not currently on the radar of any major mock drafts, but perhaps this performance will gain him some notoriety for a pro career of some sort. Maybe there's a future for him with a group such as Team Flight Brothers.
No one is going to confuse this showing with what we saw from Zach LaVine at the NBA All-Star Weekend in February, but Cotton still deserves credit for his winning performance.
