Tuesday's Marquee Results

Murray was the biggest headline Tuesday, as ATP World Tour pointed out:

Murray won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 3-6 and then took control in the third set and won 6-3. His opponent, Kevin Anderson, was more impressive in a number of areas, though, and ended up with 11 aces to Murray's two. However, Murray won 83 percent of his first-service points and stepped up with the match on the line in that final set.

Elsewhere, Djokovic received a much stiffer challenge than many expected from Dolgopolov and almost lost the match in straight sets. In fact, Djokovic lost the first set in a tiebreaker and actually fell behind 4-2 in the second set before he tallied a monster break and eventually won the second set.

Djokovic was then the dominant force he typically is in the third set and won 24 of 27 points on the way to a 6-0 victory.

Djokovic commented on his performance, per the ATP World Tour's official website:

"

I fought my way through. I was frustrated. I was losing my composure in the first set, because I didn't feel good. So I was just trying to find a way to come back in the match.

I don't feel that I'm very fresh on the court, even though I'm trying. Again, I'm in the quarter-finals of this tournament. This day off tomorrow will definitely serve me and help me to recover mentally, because physically I'm fine. I feel okay. Hopefully I can perform better in the next one.

"

Next up for the world's top-rated player is a showdown with David Ferrer.

If Djokovic plays half as well against Ferrer as he did in the third set Tuesday, he should be able to move forward toward a second consecutive Miami Open title. However, Ferrer will pose a more difficult challenge than Dolgopolov if Djokovic plays like he did in the first couple of sets Tuesday.

Ultimately, Djokovic is the No. 1 player in the world who is fresh off a championship in Indian Wells and won in Miami last year. He received Dolgopolov's best shot Tuesday and still came away with the victory, which is troublesome news for the rest of the field.

On the women's side, Williams lost a heartbreaker to Navarro.

It didn't look like Williams was going to lose Tuesday when she won the first set 6-0 and completely controlled the tempo and pace of the match. Navarro appeared to be outmatched. However, that domination was short-lived, as Navarro was equally as impressive in the second set and won 6-1.

It was a back-and-forth third set that was tied at 5-5, but Navarro won the final two games and emerged with a hard-fought victory, sending home one of the most recognizable names on tour.
