Gay Shut Down For Final Three Games of Season
Saturday, April 11
The Kings announced that Gay will not return for the season's final three games:
"Gay successfully returned through the NBA Concussion Policy’s return-to-participation protocol. Upon returning to full competition earlier this week, Gay experienced symptoms that required further observation and rest from play. The Sacramento Kings medical staff has continued to consult with the Director of the NBA Concussion Program, Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher, and has ultimately decided that Gay will not participate in games for the remainder of the season.
"
Gay was on quite a roll against Memphis' stout defense before he was forced out of action, putting up 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting in 29 minutes.
Without big man DeMarcus Cousins—ESPN.com's Michael Wallace reported that the team is considering shutting him down for the season—the Kings don't have many other players who can create offense quite like Gay can.
After a strong start to the 2014-15 campaign, Sacramento has faded fast. It's probably for the best for Gay to take some time to recover as the Kings are out of playoff contention.
