Exum To Focus on 2016-17 Return

Saturday, June 18

"At this stage the most important thing for me right now is to continue training," Exum said, per a team release. "It's been great to be back on the court competing, and I'm really motivated to help the Jazz have a successful season this year. My support and best wishes will be with the Boomers this summer, and I look forward to future opportunities to represent my home country."

The Jazz used the No. 5 pick on Exum in the 2014 NBA draft with the hopes he would develop into a superstar in the future with more experience. However, his early career has been filled with physical setbacks that have hindered his progress, and this is the latest example.

He suffered a torn ACL while playing for the Australian national team last August and underwent surgery that cost him all of the 2015-16 campaign.

The young guard didn’t find his footing in the NBA during his rookie season, either, failing to make the immediate impact the Jazz were looking for. He averaged just 4.8 points and 2.4 assists per night, but he flashed his upside on a number of occasions.

At 6’6”, Exum is a physical presence in the backcourt who can power his way to the rim against smaller defenders or explode past slower ones with an impressive first step. He's also developing three-point range, which will make him more difficult to guard once he puts it all together.
