Nike Air Jordan 10 Retro 'Double Nickel' Release Date, Pics and Retail Price

Matt FitzgeraldMar 26, 2015

The Nike Air Jordan 10 Retro "Double Nickel" shoe is the latest release from the historic shoe brand to pay tribute to classic predecessors while still exuding a modern vibe.

As is stated in Nike's official press release regarding the fresh kicks, Air Jordan brand is undertaking a remastering initiative of sorts to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The retro sneakers' white, red and black color scheme is a nod to the originals, and it makes for a sharp-looking Jordan 10 scheme.

Check out the basic information below on the new sneakers, which will be released on Saturday.

The significance of this particular shoe stems from Michael Jordan's initial comeback to the NBA in 1995. On the bottom of the shoe, Jordan's most notable career accomplishments are listed, with the word "Beyond" next to the year 1994.

What makes this Air Jordan issue so unique is the featuring of the number 45 on the side. That was the jersey Jordan wore during his return to the hardwood before eventually returning to his legendary No. 23.

Nike.com provides a Twitter photo closeup of the No. 45 decal:

Only players could wear these shoes when they were first issued, and Jordan only did so for a select number of games, according to Nike.com.

Now everyone can grab a pair. The design is quite intricate, but the simple yet powerful colors that define the look give it a vibrant quality that would impress any casual consumer, even without seeing the Jumpman logo on the back heels.

The good news about this, too, is that those who have the vintage Jordan No. 45 jersey can add a new element to the equation by wearing the retro version of the shoes Jordan himself wore with his new number to start his comeback.

Nike has come up with a creative way to reflect on the brief period Jordan rocked the No. 45 by producing an updated edition of what looks to be a great, comfortable basketball shoe.

No corner of Jordan's all-time great career should be left uncovered amid the 30th anniversary festivities. The retro "Double Nickels" ensure that none will, at least in the immediate aftermath of Jordan's epic maiden return to the NBA.

Sometimes it's best to leave classic shoes as they are, but in this instance, the Air Jordan manufacturers have done this shoe justice in bringing it back around.
