Lou Amundson Gets Jaw Rocked by Mike Conley Jr., Somehow Picks Up Foul

Dan CarsonMar 24, 2015

The New York Knicks remained flat Monday night, losing 103-82 to the Memphis Grizzlies and reprising their role as the most level stretch of highway in the Eastern Conference.

Injuries continue to claim Knick after Knick, and it’s a small wonder Lou Amundson wasn’t added to New Yorks ever-expanding compost pile after having his jaw relocated by the ball and Mike Conley Jr.’s sternum.

The 32-year-old forward reached to gather the ball in the third quarter only to be interrupted by a jarring blow to the face from Conley.

WFUV’s Kenny Ducey posted a Vine of the collision. Amudson’s mandible goes one way, his ponytail whips violently, and somehow, he ended up being hit with an offensive foul.

I don’t know what wormhole you must fall down to find a reality where officials discuss even the possibility of this being a foul on Amundson, but that appeared to be the shape of things Monday night. Fortunately, the Knicks forward was not injured on the play.

Back in the real world outside Madison Square Garden, where reason and joy live, people disagreed with the call:

I don’t know how to explain this one, besides musing the Knicks’ fully armored panzer job this season has provoked total karmic destruction from the basketball gods. Or the refs are at the point where they assume every player wearing a New York jersey is guilty in some fashion, if not just by association.

Dan is on Twitter. Ponytails are always good for accentuating contact.
