San Antonio Spurs vs. Atlanta Hawks: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction
The San Antonio Spurs jumped out to an early lead against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday afternoon and never relented, emerging with a 114-95 victory. The win represents San Antonio's third straight triumph, while Atlanta has now dropped three straight games.
Kawhi Leonard was the Spurs' frontman from the opening quarter, pacing the team to a double-digit lead within minutes of the opening buzzer. He finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals in 32 minutes of action.
Tiago Splitter enjoyed his finest scoring output of the season, totaling 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting. He also added eight rebounds in what was his best overall performance of the year.
Danny Green had 15, scoring the bulk of his points in the opening quarter as his hot three-point shooting helped the Spurs build momentum. Marco Belinelli and Boris Diaw played crucial roles off the bench, each carrying the team during the starters' absences to counter any small Atlanta runs. They finished with 13 and 17 points, respectively, with 15 of Diaw's coming in the final quarter.
Tony Parker and Tim Duncan combined for just 20 points, although they did have 12 assists, too.
Though San Antonio never let Atlanta slash the lead to single digits after jumping out to a 16-4 advantage minutes into the game, the Hawks enjoyed a handful of runs that kept the Spurs from blowing it entirely open. One such run came after the mid-third quarter ejection of head coach Mike Budenholzer, though San Antonio rebounded soon after.
Paul Millsap notched 22 while Dennis Schroder added 18 off the bench. Beyond those two, only DeMarre Carroll (12) and Pero Antic (11) scored in double digits.
Though the Hawks' hold of the East's top seed is unlikely to be challenged, the three-game losing streak marks their longest of the season.
The Spurs, meanwhile, continue trending upwards after a rough midseason stretch.
