Duke vs. Robert Morris: Score and Twitter Reaction from March Madness 2015

Adam WellsMar 20, 2015

For the 13th time since the NCAA tournament field expanded in 1985, Duke has advanced in the round of 64 as a No. 1 seed. The Blue Devils coasted to an easy 85-56 win over Robert Morris.

Duke started sluggish, looking like a team that hasn't played in nearly one week with sloppy turnovers and bad shot selection but turned it on quickly.

Mike Krzyzewski's team led 42-25 at halftime and was able to take its foot off the gas pedal in the second half with its spot in the round of 32 secure.

Quinn Cook led the barrage for Duke with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting (6-of-10 from three-point range), with Jahlil Okafor also filling his stat sheet with 21 points.

In fact, per CBS Sports, Cook was so good from beyond the arc that his face was making unusual contortions:

There were no shortage of stars in this game for Coach K's group. The Blue Devils had five players score in double figures; Marshall Plumlee had a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Duke has been one of the best shooting teams in the country all year, so this onslaught was hardly a surprise. The Blue Devils hit 64.2 percent of their shots in this game.

It wasn't all good news for Duke, as Okafor embarrassed himself attempting a reverse dunk with the Blue Devils up 19 in the second half. He missed it and will be on SportsCenter's Not Top 10 very soon.

The reaction by Coach K was about what you would expect from one of the most respected coaches in all of sports.

Seth Davis of CBS Sports basically summed up Okafor's future potential for attempting a play like that again:

It was a strange game for Okafor. Despite the bad dunk attempt and high point total, people who aren't sold on him as a No. 1 pick in the NBA draft can point out what Zach Braziller of the New York Post noted:

That's certainly not going to stop any potential complaints about his toughness and defense. It's also possible that Justise Winslow's 11 rebounds didn't leave many more opportunities.

Don't expect Coach K to let his team rest on its laurels. Here's an enlightening quote from Matt Jones to Lauren Brownlow of Fox Sports about what Krzyzewski said after losing to Notre Dame in the ACC tournament:

"

Coach told us that it gave us like an innocence to us. It's like another life, so to speak. All our guys, we were excited. Obviously, we weren't a No. 1 seed last year so to be a No. 1 seed this year, this is my first time and a lot of people's first time.

"

Duke has been burned as a high seed in the past, losing as a No. 3 seed to Mercer last year, for instance. Krzyzewski knows that nothing is given in the tournament.

On the losing side, even though there weren't a lot of positives to take away, Adam Zagoria of NBA.com was quick to give Robert Morris head coach Andy Toole some love:

Robert Morris guard Lucky Jones, who had a hard night with seven points on 3-of-14 shooting, wanted the team to be remembered for more than this one game, per Zagoria:

Give the Colonials credit. They were in one of the most difficult situations of any team in the tournament, no one expected them to win and they might have told you in an honest moment before the game.

Yet there was always effort and drive with the team. Duke is just superior in every way, which is often the case with many teams the Blue Devils face.

Now, Coach K and Co. will await the winner of St. John's vs. San Diego State in the round of 32.

The Red Storm will make for an interesting story if they win, having played Duke well before falling 77-68 in the regular season in the game that gave Krzyzewski 1,000 career wins.

Duke has grown a lot since that day, only losing to Notre Dame in the two months since. The Blue Devils aren't a perfect team, but they have played like a Final Four team for the last two months.
