Kevin Durant Injury Update: Thunder Star out Indefinitely with Foot Problem
Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant is going to halt his on-court work due to an inability to make the necessary progress to recover from a lingering foot injury.
Keaton Fox of KOKH in Oklahoma City passed along word of the decision from Thunder general manager Sam Presti:
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN notes Presti said Durant won't return to the court until the soreness is gone:
Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports highlights the fact there's no real timetable:
And Michael Lee of The Washington Post provided confirmation from Presti that Durant could miss the rest of the season:
ESPN's Skip Bayless reacted to the news:
Durant hasn't played in a game since February 19 because of the injury. The Thunder were hoping he could recover in time to provide a major boost during the stretch run of their playoff push. That's obviously very much in question now.
Oklahoma City currently sits in eighth place in the Western Conference, only one game ahead of the New Orleans Pelicans for the final berth in the postseason. Being without Durant makes the task of holding onto that spot far more difficult.
The Thunder will hope more rest will do the trick. Until then, the onus falls on Russell Westbrook to keep playing at an MVP level to lead the charge.
