ACC Tournament 2015: Semifinals Schedule, Live Stream Info, Bracket Predictions

Rob GoldbergMar 13, 2015

Fans got what they wanted to see in the ACC tournament, with all the best teams advancing to the semifinals.

While upsets and underdogs are fun for a while, it's also great to see two juggernauts against each other on the big stage of the conference tournament. With Virginia, Duke, Notre Dame, Louisville and North Carolina clearly a tier above the rest, it was necessary for four of these squads to advance beyond the quarterfinals.

Now the real challenge begins, as each squad has the ability to leave Greensboro, North Carolina, with a title. Here is a look at what to watch for with predictions for each game.

Virginia simply continues to win games, even when it isn't looking impressive doing it.

The Cavaliers fought their way to a victory over Florida State in the quarterfinals despite not having the best offensive day, especially with leading scorer Malcolm Brogdon quiet for most of the game.

Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports also noted an important problem for Virginia:

Justin Anderson returned to action, but he was held scoreless in 12 minutes and is clearly still far from being 100 percent. The defense is still among the best in the nation, but the inability to score will remain a problem going forward.

This is good news for North Carolina, which has the talent necessary to win this matchup. Marcus Paige finally appears healthy after dealing with foot issues during the season, while Brice Johnson is becoming a star in the low post.

With the Tar Heels' ability to score in transition, they can have some success where others failed against Virginia. Although the Cavaliers earned an 11-point road win the last time these teams met, North Carolina can pull off the upset in Greensboro.

Prediction: North Carolina 61, Virginia 59

No. 2 Duke vs. No. 3 Notre Dame

Notre Dame has one of the top offenses in the nation this season, ranked No. 4 in adjusted efficiency by KenPom.com. Jerian Grant has played at an All-American level as a floor general, scorer and creator.

The problem is we saw the Fighting Irish at their worst in the second half against Miami. They went almost 12 minutes without a field goal, as they struggled to penetrate into the defense.

Head coach Mike Brey admitted what went wrong after the game:

Duke might not be the best defensive team, but it can stay in front of opponents and prevent easy drives. This will then limit the open shots on the perimeter, where Notre Dame thrives.

Of course, it will take only a little bit of defense for the Blue Devils to win with their offense. They blew out North Carolina State Thursday and didn't even need lucky shooting to do it, as Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports noted:

Six different players finished in double figures, which didn't even include outstanding freshman Tyus Jones who had eight assists and just one turnover in the win. The entire team is playing at a high level, as apparent by the current 12-game winning streak.

Unless Notre Dame shoots lights out from the perimeter, it will be the 13th victim in a row.

Prediction: Duke 78, Notre Dame 67
