Klay Thompson Passes Steve Kerr on NBA's All-Time 3-Pointers Made List
The Splash Brothers have officially left their coach in the dust. With a three-pointer in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Warriors guard Klay Thompson passed coach Steve Kerr on the NBA's all-time list of three-pointers made.
Thompson, 25, knocked down the three with four seconds remaining in the first quarter. He came into Sunday one behind Kerr and free-agent swingman John Salmons with 725 career threes. While it took Kerr 15 NBA seasons and Salmons 13 to hit their respective marks, Thompson has already passed them in his fourth campaign.
Part of perhaps the best shooting backcourt in NBA history, Thompson is in the midst of his career-best season. He is averaging 21.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and was named to his first All-Star team last month.
The former Washington State star is well on his way to breaking his high in three-pointers made in a season (223) while shooting a career-best 43 percent from deep. Thompson's ascent alongside the continued rise of Stephen Curry has helped propel the Warriors to an NBA-best 48-12 record coming into Sunday.
Curry, selected two years before Thompson, entered the game 60th on the all-time list of three-pointers made. He will pass Latrell Sprewell for 59th with two more made shots from distance.
Given their current rate of performance, Thompson and Curry are a long way from done on their ascent up the three-point ladder.
