Duke vs. UNC: TV Schedule, Live Stream Info for 2015 Regular Season

R. Cory SmithMar 6, 2015

And it begins again. College basketball's most storied rivalry and one of the best in all of sports will write a new chapter on Saturday night to conclude the ACC regular season.

Even with all of the changes in the conference, North Carolina and Duke remains the most enthralling game whenever the two teams play. Louisville and Virginia will be the opening act on Saturday night—and it's not even seen as a co-headliner.

Unfortunately, the contest will once again be without one of the biggest faces in the sport. Dick Vitale, ESPN's longtime announcer, was not assigned to the February contest and won't be on hand for Saturday's.

"Heck, I'd crawl to Chapel Hill if my bosses assigned me the game," Vitale told Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated.

If that doesn't show how important this game is, nothing else will.

After one of the best games in recent memory earlier this season, the Battle of the Blues promises to live up to the hype again in Chapel Hill. Before the game tips, here's a look at the full game information and a preview of college basketball's most heated rivalry.

Preview

Just how tightly contested has this rivalry been over the last several decades? In the last 88 matchups, each team has won 44. When both teams are ranked, Duke holds a 37-36 edge in the series, via ESPN Stats & Info.

Suffice to say, this is one rivalry that can legitimately go either way.

If there was one player in the first meeting that tipped the scales, it was Tyus Jones. Down 79-72 with just one minute and 26 seconds remaining, the freshman guard outscored UNC 10-2 to get the team to overtime. From there, the Devils took control in overtime en route to a 92-90 triumph.

DURHAM, NC - FEBRUARY 21: Head coach Mike Krzyzewski embraces Tyus Jones #5 of the Duke Blue Devils during the final seconds of their win against the Clemson Tigers at Cameron Indoor Stadium on February 21, 2015 in Durham, North Carolina. Duke won 78-56.

“One of the reasons we waited three years to get him was because he had special qualities, not just special talents,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said of Jones, via Laura Keeley of The News & Observer. “It shows up in big games and big moments. When he took the wheel, the car finished in first place.”

Along with the great play from freshmen like Jones and Jahlil Okafor, Duke can also lean on its lone senior starter. Quinn Cook, who has often been overlooked, is the second-leading scorer with 15.8 points per game.

He's also coming off an emotional senior night in Cameron during a blowout of Wake Forest. Cook addressed the crowd following the contest, via Adam Smith of the Times-News:

Speaking of veteran leadership, the Tar Heels have just that in Marcus Paige. The junior has been up and down this season, with the first matchup against Duke serving as one of the most disappointing. Finishing 2-of-11 with just five points and five rebounds, Paige likely hopes to reverse his fortunes on Saturday.

Carolina's official basketball account passed along a statistic that proves just how vital Paige has been to the program:

In order for Carolina to even up the series this season, it will need a huge game from Paige.

Though it won't mean anything for seeding in the ACC tournament, the game is still a massive one for everyone involved in both programs. If the February matchup taught us anything, it's that no team will ever give up and no ounce of energy will be wasted.

Expect another thrilling chapter in the Battle of the Blues. This time, the lighter shade will be looking for vengeance.
