Duncan Moves into 9th Place on All-Time Rebounding List

Bleacher Report MilestonesMar 5, 2015

San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan moved past Nate Thurmond for sole possession of ninth place on the NBA's all-time rebounding list during the first quarter of Wednesday's 112-85 win over the Sacramento Kings, per the Spurs' official twitter account.

Duncan entered the game even with Thurmond at 14,464 career rebounds, and the future Hall of Famer broke the tie upon grabbing a defensive board with eight minutes, 41 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Duncan added five more boards before the end of the blowout victory, finishing with a stat line of five points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocks over just 19 minutes.

He now has 14,470 career rebounds, leaving him just 36 shy of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett, who currently sits at 14,506.

Duncan will likely pass Garnett by the end of 2014-15, as KG is averaging just 6.6 rebounds through 46 games this season, while Duncan is averaging a lofty 9.6 through 55 appearances.

Duncan often sat out one game of back-to-backs in past seasons, but with the Spurs a bit further down the playoff picture this year, coach Gregg Popovich has typically allowed his 38-year-old stalwart to play in both games.

The 38-year-old Garnett, meanwhile, has mostly been held out of one of the two games in back-to-back sets, both before and after he was traded from the Brooklyn Nets.
