LeBron James Passes Ray Allen for 21st Place on the NBA's All-Time Points List
Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James scored 27 points in Tuesday's 110-79 win over the Boston Celtics to pass Ray Allen for 21st place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, per Sportsnet Stats.
James entered the game with 24,481 career points, needing 25 more to surpass Allen's 24,505, some of which came while he and James were teammates with the Miami Heat.
The Cavs' 30-year-old superstar came out of the gates like a man on a mission Tuesday night, dropping 21 points in the first half alone, with 12 of those coming in the first quarter.
He then passed Allen with seven minutes, 48 seconds remaining in the third quarter, laying the ball in on an assist from guard Kyrie Irving.
James notched one more basket a couple minutes later before he was taken out for good with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, as the Cavs held a commanding 82-47 lead at the time.
He impressively finished his night with 27 points, three rebounds, five assists, three steals, a block and just one turnover, despite logging only 26 minutes in the dominant home victory.
As well as the Cavs have been playing, Tuesday's result still came as somewhat of a surprise, given that the Celtics have also looked much better lately.
As for James, his next target on the all-time scoring list is 20th-place Patrick Ewing, who sits 307 points away with 24,815 for his career.
Looking further down the line, James stands an excellent chance to finish his career in the top five of the list, with the No. 5 spot currently inhabited by the legendary Wilt Chamberlain, owner of 31,419 career points.
