Daily Fantasy College Basketball 2015: Top Player Picks for March 3

Rob GoldbergMar 3, 2015

The final week of the college basketball regular season is set to provide a lot of action, which means a lot of decisions to make for daily fantasy competitors.

Tuesday's games feature some of the best teams in the nation with some players capable of putting up big numbers. The question is which stars are going to take over and will their teams to victory, helping out fantasy owners in the process.

Here is a look at some of the top options across the board for March 3, each one projected to provide plenty of value in any contest.

In a day with few obvious options at the top of the list, Aaron White is someone who could stand above the rest with a huge game against Indiana.

The Hoosiers are still competing for a spot in the NCAA tournament, but they have been awful at defending the paint in recent weeks. Over the last 10 games, only Rutgers (twice) failed to shoot at least 50 percent on two-point attempts. Unsurprisingly, Indiana is just 4-6 in this stretch.

White has been one of the hottest players in the nation, averaging 22.7 points and 11.3 rebounds over the last three games. He should be able to keep it up with another strong performance against a weak low-post defense.

Fantasy players could even expect big things from teammate Jarrod Uthoff for the same reason.

Brice Johnson, North Carolina ($7,700)

When North Carolina played Georgia Tech two weeks ago, the Tar Heels blew away the competition thanks to a dominant frontcourt performance. Although the Yellow Jackets have a great rebounding team, they were destroyed on the glass 37-29 while North Carolina shot 62.3 percent from the field.

This leaves a great opportunity for both Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks ($6,600 on DraftKings) to have another big day against a defense that struggles to defend the post.

Johnson might scare people away after his four-point effort last week against North Carolina State, but he has been impressive otherwise with at least 16 points scored in five of the last six games. After totaling 22 points and 11 rebounds Saturday against Miami (Florida), he could be ready for some more damage against Georgia Tech.

Frank Mason III, Kansas ($6,800)

After Frank Mason III scored just four points in a loss to Kansas State, Kansas head coach Bill Self challenged his point guard.

“I think he’s better than what he’s played,” Self explained, via Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star. “As good as he’s played, I think he can impact more possessions and get more assists and score more points.”

Mason responded with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists in a win over Texas where he was clearly much more aggressive with the ball. This will have to continue against a West Virginia defense that puts a lot of pressure on the opposing point guard.

Kansas will need the sophomore on the floor as often as possible in this one, and he will hope to replicate his 18-point performance the last time these teams played. With his ability to rack up rebounds and assists as well, he could have a solid all-around game.

Dylan Ennis, Villanova ($6,100)

While scoring is always great in basketball, fantasy players who can fill up the box score in other ways make the best fantasy picks. You can trust them to have a solid day even when things aren't going well.

Of course, things went very well for Dylan Ennis last game against Xavier, as he scored 16 points thanks to a 4-of-9 effort from three-point range. Adding his ability to provide fantasy points in other areas, he has been quite effective lately, even counting his worst day:

2/16 vs. SHU124322.75
2/21 at MARQ146733.25
2/24 vs. PROV05210
2/28 at XAV165531.75

Facing Creighton could be an even bigger chance to put up quality stats thanks to a defense that ranks 341st in the nation out of 351 teams in three-point defense, according to TeamRankings.com. Ennis will get open looks and should be able to take advantage of the opportunity.

Montaque Gill-Caesar, Missouri ($4,100)

This is certainly a risky pick, but the cheaper you go, the less certainty you are dealing with in daily fantasy.

Montaque Gill-Caesar only had 15 combined points over the last two games, but it took some quality defenses to slow him down. The important thing is he keeps staying aggressive, taking at least eight field-goal attempts in each of the past five games.

It should be easier to score against Auburn, which ranks 302nd in the nation in effective field-goal percentage allowed, according to KenPom.com. In a back-and-forth battle between two struggling teams, the freshman guard could be a rare highlight.

More Value Picks

Kourtney Roberson, Texas A&M ($6,500): The senior has been red-hot lately, averaging 15 points and 9.2 rebounds over the past five games. He also has two double-doubles in this stretch and is capable of another one Tuesday.

Jevon Carter, West Virginia ($5,500): With Juwan Staten out with a knee injury Saturday, Jevon Carter stepped up and scored 25 points in a losing effort against Baylor. Whether Staten plays against Kansas or not, Carter will be asked to take on a bigger role this time around.

Ralston Turner, North Carolina State ($5,200): Although Ralston Turner doesn't have many huge games, he is consistent enough to give you quality production for the cost. The senior has reached double figures in 14 of 16 ACC games this year and tied a season high with 18 shot attempts last game.

Jared Nickens, Maryland ($3,300): If you're looking to save money, take a chance on this sharpshooter hitting 40.5 percent of three-pointers for the season and 9-of-17 in his last five games. Even mild production at this price would justify his inclusion in your lineup while spending on bigger targets.
