Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction
The Detroit Pistons' second-quarter run may have provided quite the scare, but in the end there was no stopping the Cleveland Cavaliers, who downed Detroit 102-93 Tuesday night.
Both teams entered the contest having won their two games following the All-Star break, and while Cleveland can certainly boast a better record (36-22), Detroit is quickly proving itself as a legitimate playoff contender with the capacity to sneak into the playoff picture.
However, they were unable to get it done tonight, thanks to big nights from the Cavs' Big Three. LeBron led the way with 19 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. Consistently carving up defenses and opening up opportunities for his teammates along the perimeter, there was little question as to who Cleveland's leader was, especially down the stretch.
Kevin Love added a game-high 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting. He went 8-of-14 from deep, creating mismatches at the 4 as he tied his career record for three-pointers made. Kyrie Irving added 18, albeit on a shoddy 6-of-16 clip from the floor. Timofey Mozgov pitched in 14 points and four blocks in the winning effort.
For Detroit, newcomer Reggie Jackson led the way with a 22-point, nine-assist and eight-rebound night—proving his versatility while also offering a glimpse into his developing connection with Andre Drummond, who finished the night with 17 points and 10 boards,
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope pitched in 21, shooting 5-of-7 from deep.
Ultimately, the Pistons' balanced offensive attack wasn't enough to get it done. Despite holding a fourteen point lead, sloppy mistakes allowed Cleveland back into the game as they proceeded to take the lead and never relent.
With 17 wins in their last 19 games, the Cavs are rolling, and while Detroit looks impressive too, LeBron and Co. are living up to the hype.
