Zach LaVine Wins 2015 NBA Slam Dunk Contest: Scores, Highlights and Reaction

Joseph ZuckerFeb 14, 2015

Zach LaVine might not have single-handedly made the 2015 Slam Dunk Contest the spectacle that it was in the 1980s, but he definitely more than delivered on expectations, winning the dunk contest on Saturday night in the Barclays Center.

The Minnesota Timberwolves guard posted a final-round 94 to beat Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo for the title.

The last time a Timberwolves player won, LaVine wasn't even born yet, per ESPN Stats & Info:

He's also the second-youngest dunk-contest winner ever, per Sports Illustrated:

LaVine spoke about how much the win meant to him, per SI's Ben Golliver:

His first dunk was arguably his best. Using a Space Jam theme, LaVine channeled his inner Michael Jordan, transferring the ball between his legs while mid-air under the basket before throwing it down.

LaVine also wowed the Barclays Center crowd with a seemingly effortless behind-the-back right-handed slam.

By his obscenely high first-round standards, his two dunks in the championship round were a bit of a letdown.

Many fans have argued over the years whether the Slam Dunk Contest is completely dead and has outlived its usefulness. The dunk contest may not be "back," so to speak, but Saturday's event was a more than enjoyable showcase of some of the league's best dunkers.

And LaVine firmly established himself as a rising star in the league.
