Rutgers' Myles Mack Air-Balls Weakly Contested Layup Against Purdue
I've got good news and bad news, Rutgers.
The good news is you retained possession on this play. The bad news is your man may be suffering from snow blindness.
In what appears to be a distant cousin of Aaron Brooks' alley-oop to nowhere, Rutgers point guard Myles Mack somehow managed to avoid drawing rim or backboard on a layup in transition against Purdue on Thursday night.

Vine user Chip (h/t For The Win's Micah Peters) uploaded video of the air ball. Mack picked off a pass and took the ball to the hoop, facing only the most token resistance from Purdue's Rapheal Davis along the way. Somehow, however, things became discombobulated, and Mack left his two-foot field goal-attempt about a foot short.
Now, the floating runner is a finesse endeavor. Too much cowbell, and you're spanking backboard—too little, and you're Mack, hanging in midair, watching your shot float back to you like a sad birthday balloon.
There was the aforementioned bright spot, which was Purdue's inability to defend or corral Mack's shot. Davis' Swayze defense was compounded by Kendall Stephens' stone hands bobbling the ball out of bounds, effectively handing possession back to the Knights after one of the uglier transition plays in recent memory.
Rutgers would go on to lose 61-51 and fall to 10-16.
After dealing a powerhouse Wisconsin team its only conference loss of the season, the Knights have since returned firmly to pumpkins. But hey—that's life in the Big Ten.
Dan is on Twitter. He just wants to find Mack's floater a good home.
