NBA Slam Dunk Contest 2015: Participants and Breakdown for Showcase Event

R. Cory SmithFeb 11, 2015

It wouldn't truly be an All-Star weekend in the NBA without some of the nastiest, high-flying dunks from young stars. This year is no exception, with the Slam Dunk Contest taking center stage on Saturday.

Valentine's Day will be a brutal one for the four players in the contest, with every single one looking to do something never done before. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Zach LaVine, Victor Oladipo and Mason Plumlee will all be vying for the ultimate prize.

Below is a look at the full list of participants and a breakdown of one star who might just break out during the event.

Zach LaVine, Minnesota Timberwolves

If any player entering the contest is ready to show off his supreme athleticism, it's Zach LaVine. The rookie sensation stood out during the draft process last season and found his way into the lottery with the Timberwolves taking a chance on him.

Now, he's a budding star. There might be no better stage to prove that than the Slam Dunk Contest.

LaVine has thrown down jaw-dropping dunks all season with rookie teammate Andrew Wiggins. The young duo recently connected on a slam that would make Blake Griffin jealous, via NBA TV:

Seeing as how it's his first time at the event, LaVine will likely pull out all the stops. Going against Victor Oladipo won't be easy, but it's a matchup he can win if he simply finishes on a few of his impressive dunks.

His bounce is second to none in this year's class of dunking candidates. Even in a small field of players participating, Chris Webber noted what should separate LaVine from the pack, via Turner Sports PR:

A great show should be expected from all of the participants, but it will be LaVine who should steal the show. The former UCLA player has the unique ability to throw down in myriad ways, which will help him stand out on Saturday.
