Knicks Fans Create 'Knicks 4 Sale' Site After James Dolan's Email to Fan
A few days after New York Knicks owner James Dolan's controversial response to a fan's email became public, Knicks fans have started a website to send a message to the owner: Sell the team.
From the fans who brought you FireJohnIdzik.com comes Knicks4Sale.com. Their goal is to "fix the Knicks," which in their minds means that Dolan must go.
In the email, which was published by Deadspin's Timothy Burke, Dolan told an upset fan—among other things—that he should "start rooting for the Nets because the Knicks don't want you."
After seeing that email, Jason and Jared Koeppel, Greg Kohler and Dan Filowitz decided that enough was enough. Jason explained why they started the new campaign, via ESPNNewYork.com's Mike Mazzeo:
"This email that he had the nerve to send to one of his fans was the moment. We talked last night -- the four of us -- and just said, you know what, we've had enough and we've gotta do something. ...
We're sick of having Dolan around. We're sick of his meddling. He's an embarrassment. And it's embarrassing to us to read the email that he sent to a fan, so we just felt like it was time to embarrass him.
"
Along with the website, the fans have set up a page that allows fellow Knicks fans to donate money to help put up a "Knicks4Sale" billboard near Madison Square Garden. The goal for the next two months is to raise $20,000. Those who donate $50 or more will receive an "86 Dolan" T-shirt.
The website even includes a "Wall of Shame" section that allows Knicks fans to relive some of the team's worst moments in recent memory.
Koeppel and his pals got what they wanted when the New York Jets fired Idzik last year. Taking on an owner isn't quite the same as calling for a general manager's job, but these Knicks fans think it's worth a shot.
