Luke Kennard Passes LeBron James on All-Time Ohio High School Scoring List
Duke commit Luke Kennard passed Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James on Ohio's all-time scoring list for high school basketball. It drops the four-time NBA MVP and St. VincentโSt. Mary High School product to fifth place.
Kennard completed the feat with a 44-point outing Friday night, based on a report from ESPN.com. Afterward, he admitted knowing when he passed King James and even gave a little nod to the superstar after he hit from beyond the arc.
"I pulled up from 3, saw it went inโgave it the little LeBron," he said. "That was just for fun. I'm really excited. I'm blessed to have that opportunity."
James, who saw the Cavs' 12-game winning streak end Friday, is also quoted in the report and said he's happy for the Franklin High School senior.
"He's good," James said Thursday. "He's going to Duke. He's one of my kids. That's great. I'm happy for him."
Kennard is a 5-star prospect who ranks just outside the top 20 for the Class of 2015, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He also rates as a top-five shooting guard and the No. 2 prospect coming out of Ohio, and it's easy to see why.
Passing James on the Ohio scoring list is a nice accomplishment. He's still well behind the all-time leader, though. The Ohio High School Athletic Association notes Jon Diebler scored 3,208, as compared to 2,652 currently for the future Blue Devils star.
Kennard would have to enjoy quite a career arc to come anywhere close to James' overall basketball resume. But, at least in this case, he outranks one of the best to ever play.
